Holbert Trail

The Holbert Trail is located within the South Mountain Park area and named for the park's first custodian, Charles M. Holbert. There is also a viewpoint named in his honor. The trail climbs to some of the upper reaches of South Mountain Park and offers impressive views of Phoenix far below. Distance is 2.5 miles one way and the trail is moderately difficult due to its approximate 1,100 feet elevation change. Hikers can also interconnect with other trails including a spur that leads to Dobbins Lookout. Keep an eye out for ancient petroglyphs as well. Remember to leave this prehistoric art untouched.

There is no fee to hike this spectacular desert trail. Just remember to take adequate water and snacks as there are no services available. Best times to hike are fall through spring. The trail is located at 10919 S. Central Avenue in Phoenix.
