St. Michaels Historical Museum and Mission

Details:

The original St. Michaels Mission was founded in 1896. The mission was constructed at the request of Mother Mary Katherine Drexel and operated by the Franciscans with the assistance of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. The small mission served to bring Roman Catholic teachings to the Navajo people. The original adobe building now holds exhibits that interpret missionary and Navajo life around the turn of the century.

The mission flourished and eventually, the newer church was constructed in the 1930s. Visitors can browse exhibits in the original mission Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Mission is located approximately three miles west of Window Rock on Highway 264.
