Wheatfields Lake

Wheatfields Lake is located a few miles east of Canyon de Chelly and is a popular spot for camping, fishing or a casual picnic. The lake covers 270 acres at an elevation of 7,300 feet at the base of the Chuska Mountains. In spring, Navajo Game and Fish Department stocks the lake with rainbow trout. Anglers can fish from the shore or launch a boat (trolling motors only), kayak or float into the lake. Just be sure to purchase the appropriate license from the camper store.
The campground is a bit primitive so it is necessary to bring supplies and water. The road is paved but can be somewhat rough. Campground fees range from $15 to $25 and can also be paid at the lakeside store. The rustic conditions are outweighed by the delicious trout you'll catch for dinner!
